Alpha Med-Surge, INC. (AMS) is a medical device company whose revolutionary platform, patent-pending LED technology for head-mounted illumination could render current Xenon-based technology obsolete. It is the future of not only medical and surgical head-mounted illumination, but also the future of specialized head-mounted illumination in general. The AMS proprietary process involves the delivery of a cooler, brighter light through the combination and collection of light from multiple LEDs, and the direction of that light onto a working field through sophisticated optical geometry. This results in a more efficient “white light” that enables the user to view the working field and identify structures with unparalleled clarity and definition.
AMS was founded in 2005 for the purpose of developing and marketing a new head-mounted illumination system to the surgical marketplace. Years of research in the field indicated that although the currently accepted method of utilizing Xenon-based technology was relatively efficient, tremendous advances in LED technology would someday make it possible to use LEDs to create a more economical and technologically advanced product that had the ability to literally expand the visual limits of the surgeon. AMS filed for a provisional patent in 2004 and then filed for process and application patent in late 2005. AMS intends to be the first and only company to create a head-mounted LED illumination system that is as bright as Xenon, yet possesses properties that are physically impossible to accomplish with the Xenon system, such as the ability to modulate and vary the wavelength of light to enhance and contrast different anatomical structures and tissues.
Although the original purpose and goal of AMS continues to involve the medical/surgical field, the AMS platform is certainly not limited to that application. AMS technology reaches to such industries as aerospace, mining, and gemology where our head-mounted illumination systems can provide the user with unparalleled mobility and wider visual spectrum possibilities. LED technology in general is exploding in every industry, from automotive headlights and interior lighting to lighting for homes and even street lights. Because it is more efficient, cooler, requires less energy, and is virtually maintenance free, LED is the future of lighting. With its patent-pending technology for head-mounted illumination, AMS has the ability to enter many of these other markets that need energy-efficient illumination that can also provide the user with countless visual spectrum possibilities.
In January 2006, AMS was selected to participate as a program company for the North Texas Enterprise Center for Medical Technology (NTEC, Inc.), the leading medical technology incubator in the Southwest. NTEC, Inc. (www.ntec-Inc.org) assists entrepreneurs in starting and growing new medical technology ventures. As a program company, AMS is able to access a wide range of business, academic, legal, marketing, and financial partners and advisors that provide the niche-specific expertise to help mitigate risk and accelerate new business venture development.
